A day in the life of a whiteboard....
We have a whiteboard in the workshop so that we can keep a note of stock that needs making up within the next few days, keeps us all focussed.  So there's a list on the left hand side saying things like "foaming facewash" and "cream dream r&v", you get the idea, then on the right hand side we list out all the Custom Made orders, simple an effective.   I think I've had a bit too much coffee today though, I thought it was hilarious to write things like "chips" and "iced buns" on every other line while I was clocking up the orders this morning.  Rachel's just come into the shop and proper told me off for being childish and messing up her system.  I'm off to put some oil on doorknobs now to get her back...

What a great job......
...you obviously love your job and have great fun doing it! Long may it continue!!! Well, regarding the mouthwash - my Dad is very open-minded and is very aware of my views on such matters and importantly we can be very blunt with each other without having an argument. So I simply read out the ingredients and correlated them with those in that brilliant book you recommended - 'Skin Deep' by Pat Thomas and there you have it. In fact, we have gone so far as to agree that adequate cleaning of your teeth is enough - after all from what I have read it seems that the dodgy mouthwashes are predominantly water with a few chemicals. This brings me on to the subject of toothpaste. This is one of the very few things left that I need to change and that is what I did today. I ordered some Green People Mint toothpaste - one for me and one for my Dad - yes, I have persuaded him to ditch the dodgy toothpaste. I was always of the view that a little flouride in our toothpaste was necessary but after reading 'Skin Deep' and a little bit more research I now think otherwise. Oddly though some of these so-called natural toothpastes do contain chemicals such as SLS (they justify this by saying that it is plant-derived - but we know the truth!). I am also concerned about silica - hydrated versus crystallised / colloidal. OK, if you inhale it in powder-form there is a risk factor associated with lung cancer - but if hydrated or colloidal then it is acceptable. I'd rather not take the risk and indeed silica based products are in some of these toothpastes. So the best I could find was Green People and it is reasonably priced. My one concern is that it contains myrrh resin which I understand has anti-bacterial properties but hope it doesn't affect the taste too much. Going back to a blog quite a while ago you did say that you were considering making a PNS branded toothpaste. Did it ever get into the pipeline? Well, I'll leave you to have another fun day at PNS. PS Whose Rachel? I'm so nosy!!!

The ongoing toothpaste question...

Firstly, well done on the conversation with your Dad, it's all very well making these decisions for ourselves, but once you do, you get this evangelical thing going on and you have to convert everyone don't you?  Especially the people you care for most, but it's very gratifying to watch the penny drop isn't it?  Well done you!

And yes, it can all get VERY childish here, Rachel's just made a Douglas figure using a cardboard roll, coffee stirrers, shredded brown paper for hair, his glasses and dressed him in a tissue paper lab coat (and a speech ballon of him yelling "Yippeee", his favourite word).  It's eating his lunch as we speak, he's not seen it yet.  Rachel helps us here in the workshop now, she's in there with Helen and Doug making soaps, lotions and potions.  Dean and I work mainly in the shop doing paperwork, despatch and serving.  Add in Heleena who takes the helm on Saturdays for us and that's the whole team.  Today's childish games include the whiteboard clowning (which just isn't getting old for me yet) and sticking notes on eachothers backs.  Helen's also been doing some very unflattering cartoons of me on MSN (I am very slightly hung over today).  Purile some might say, we call it team building.

Right, this toothpaste lark, I couldn't agree with you more on the fluoride issue or the silica one and it seems you've come unstuck at exactly the same place I did. Maybe I really am just a stick in the mud, but the idea of myrhh or rosemary in a toothpaste just turns me off.  I've not used the GP one though, so do let me know how you get on OK?

toothpaste
Hello there! This is my first post on your blog. I just had to post a comment on the toothpaste topic coz I've been using the Green People toothpaste for some time now and I think it's by far the best natural one out there (so far). The Minty Cool one is great (the most like ordinary toothpaste) but my fave is the Fennel and Propolis coz it has a gorgeous cinnamony/aniseedy zing which is probably one of those flavours you either love or hate. Although they do contain myrrh, the taste is fine (perhaps the citrus one has a bit of a funny after taste). Aside from this, I've just got to say a big thank you to PNS for making such fab products; I had really bad acne and blemishes for years but I've been using your cleanser and cream dream (geranium and lemon) for about a 7 months now and my face is almost clear! I had tried all sorts of things on prescription but nothing worked so thank you very much for everything you do - you lot are amazing x

GP Mint toothpaste
Well, I have being using the mint one for a couple of days now. I can taste the mint and there is no odd taste - so the myrrh doesn't seem to be a problem - give it a try Emily. It is a creamy/beige colour which seemed a bit odd at first - but it doesn't have all the unnecessary colourings does it! I suppose the true test will be in 6 - 12 months time when I go for my dental check-ups. Incidentally, my former toothpaste was AquaFresh Fresh and Minty but when I looked on the ingredients label there was no mention of mint. Therefore, the only thing that could be construed as mint would be the ingredient aroma. I really don't want to know what is in aroma - probably some nasty chemicals that smell minty! Good to know that there is another PNS Fan out there!!!!

Toothpaste, the never ending story...

Like I said above, I'm just going to have to try it to see for myself, there's no other way.  I'll keep you posted of course, but all your work with changing both your habits and your dads has shamed me into it - it's time to try it now.

And the aroma stuff will be menthol based I would have thought, I just don't get that, it's not an expensive ingredient to start with (not when you consider what myrhh costs for example, that would make you weep..) so why substitute such a cheap thing unless you get the fakey one even cheaper?  The words rip and off spring to mind don't they?
