Home pedicures, like a day at a spa, but without the weight loss in the pocket...

I'm a little bit pleased with myself.  I did a proper home pedicure last night (yes, the other half was out, no-one should witness the amount of filing it takes to make my feet look like anything less than hooves) and I'm delighted to be wearing sandals today.

I soaked my feet first in warm water with two squirts of Handwash (it was by the sink, I couldn't be bothered to go upstairs for any Squeaky Clean Gel but that would have been fine too) with a couple generous tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda and just one of table salt.  I did this just long enough to really enjoy a small glass of wine - that is my scientific measure of how long this process should take by the way.

This softened the heels enough for the first round of filing (I wasn't joking about the hooves, really).  While I was doing that I let the Nail Oil soak in and that softened the cuticles enough to remove them from the nails with an orange stick.  A quick once over with the wonderful glass nail file followed to shape the nails properly.  Then into another foot bath with the same ingredients for round two of de-hooving.

By the time that was done, I had lovely soft feet and I finished off with by slathering my feet and lower legs in Heavenly Feet cream leaving them all tingly and really light feling.  The best bit about this was that I had to sit with my feet up (and perhaps another little glass of wine...) while it soaked in, bliss.

What do YOU do to give yourself a bit of a lift?

Ditto
...what a coincidence!!! I am susceptible to hard skin on my heels - pigs trotters as I affectionately refer to them. I usually keep then well under control with a regular soaking, a buff with a pumice stone and a smothering of your shea souffle (huge improvement since the shea souffle applications. In fact you wouldn't know I have the problem). However just of late, I have let things go a bit - well rather a lot - been quite busy lately. Well that's my excuse any way. Now for the nasty details - the hard skin on my feet started to split. Out with the Pickles - no not the ones you eat! Pickles ointment is one of those nasty chemical ridden things. It contains salicylic acid which acts to soften the hard skin. Use it for four nights and then soak feet and the hard skin starts to peel off. I used to use this stuff on a regular basis as it is very effective but once I discovered the skin softening properties of your shea souffle there was no need. Alas, I got lazy and yes the Pickles had to rear its ugly head again. I reluctantly used it feeling really annoyed with myself for not doing my regular shea souffle applications. So bad were my trotters that even the Pickles had problems. I was left with two cracks on my heal. I then had to look for something to treat the cracks. Finally, I found a 'glue-like' product that is especially for this sort of thing. Bought it - without reading the ingredients. What did it contain? TRICLOSAN. Oh no I thought - do I or don't I. After much deliberation etc, I decided I had to. So I am at present treating my trotters with a product that contains triclosan. It does contain tea tree oil as well - so there's a bit of our natural precedent in my treatment strategy. So the moral of the tale is - don't neglect your feet or else they will end up like pigs trotters. Hope your not having your lunch when your reading this. Oh yes, hope you are keeping well. Nearly forget to say that. I'm so obsessed with my trotters at the moment!!!!

arf, TEAM HOOVES!!

Oh I know it's gross, but it's kind of a fact of life for some of us isn't it - and don't worry, lunch was safely down by the time I read this :)

I'm going to try your shea trick tonight you know, now that I've finally got the hooves/trotters in a fit state I want to keep them that way. And of course for the fully glamourous option I could so this just before bedtime and wear cotton socks too, but I might wake up single.   Hmmm, keep that idea in my back pocket I think...

Nice to hear from you and hope you're very well too - we're all on top form here, thanks.  Take care xx

great idea!
Hi all.I've got various different creams for my feet too and you're right if you don't keep it up your feet go nasty. I've just come back off my holiday and my feet are horrendous(think the sun has fried my brain as I don't think I spelt that right!).They always seem to be really bad after I go on holiday. I get those cracks on my heels aswell, which is annoying as dirt gets in there and find it impossible to shift( I do wash, honest!). I'll try the shea souffle tip aswell I think ;)

Cracks....
Yep, I can confirm that despite regular washing of my feet the dirt does accumulate in those nasty cracks!!! Just so glad I'm not on my own on this one.
