PNS and Makeup

Hello again, I thought it would be nice to let you know what we've been up to in the last few weeks since I last posted.  Well, it's the run-up to Christmas now, officially (I'm allowed to say that now it's actually December!) so the shop is bustling with activity.

You'll notice the ever popular Gold, Frankincence & Myrrh Gift Box is back on the site, as well as the cheeky little Bath Hubug bar, we always have such fun making them :).  As ever though, there are a limited number of both of them, so grab them while you can.

We've also had the final chat about make-ups.  We've been talking about this to you for so long now that we realy do have to come to a final decision and run with it.   Just so you know, we've struggled with this for one really fundamental reason - we can not find a supplier of mica that can guarantee the colour consitency between batches that we need AND do it in the sizes that we'll need, which is as I'm sure you can appreciate, not on the scale of the big multi-nationals.  So we're going to have to buy it in if you really want it.  So, the question to you please is, do you want makeup from PNS?

We're very happy to source some lovely makeup from other companies that share our ethics (we have our eyes on a couple of them already of course) if there's a demand from you lovely people.  This will be the last time you'll get a chance to have your say on the matter so, what are YOUR thoughts on this please?

PNS Make Up
Hi there, I am probably a bit late on this blog, but I just had to comment having spent the past few days searching the internet for cosmetics which are natural and organic and dont contain any horrid stuff! I am more confused now than when I started out! Certified Organic doesnt mean its fully organic and natural at all...So I would indeed be overjoyed if either you made your own make up or were to order in other companies' stuff which you fully endorse and therefore know for a fact that its safe for us sensitive skinned, no chemical followers. I would buy all my make up requirements from you along with all your products which I now use. Must just say I am a complete Nuff Stuff loyal now your superb products have completely cleared up my raw and very sore excema in the space of about 2 weeks! Thank you for your advice, customer service, attention to detail and for providing truly natural and great products!

PNS make-up
Not sure if I've understood properly, but it looks like you're saying it's not feasible for PNS to do their own make-up, but you are considering selling AN Other company's make-up - depending on customer opinion. If the above is right, I would be more than happy to see it there and may even dabble occasionally - as long as it didn't distract you from continuing to develop your own wonderful products :) (I do struggle finding pure/natural/ethical make-up that actually performs at a price I can afford, and so usually compromise :(. It's also quite hard working colours out online - hence probably only dabbling... at least initially!!)

Hi there Salix

Welcome to the debate, I don't believe we've spoken before *shakes hand nicely* but thanks for your comments.  You're right, we're not in a position at the moment to make the makeup ourselves due to the lack of the vital ingredients in consistent quality at prices we can afford.

So, the question was, would people like us to find some nice, similarly - ethical and hopefully affordable products?  This will be less of a distraction than adding a whole range of products to the already long list to be honest, so it won't distract us from the ones we already produce - don't worry!

In a perfect world. we'll also try and do something about being able to supply samples too because you're very right, buying online is often really hard because of that isn't it?

Thanks again for your input and do let us know if you think of anything else you'd like to see us producing :)

Eye cream
Yes, I think PNS should try to develop make up, I would certainly buy it. I would also like to see an eye cream, ones that cools and mositurizes would be great. I love PNS products, the avacado cleanser is the best I have ever used, non drying and gentle but still effective enough to remove eye make up including mascara. The shower gels leave your skin soft and cleansed. Keep up the good work, perfect for presents too.

PNS make up
Hi all. Yes, yes, YES please DO start stocking make up - ideally at prices competative to the (as far as I know) one and only otehr store in town selling this sort of make up (here's a clue: initial's A.B. - not far from my house...). Things that would be really good sellers, I think, would be the basics: you know, a decent foundation (one that does not slide off or look caked on and does not depend on petrochemicals and other rubbish to make it stick...). Also a light but shiney-face-preventing powder, tinted moisturiser, cream blusher (some of us are too old now for wrinkle-settling powder..) and mascara - just the basics to stop me scaring the public when I go out. Ooh yes, and some none-sparkley eyeshadows in natural colours (chocolate, coffee, cream, caramel etc) - again I am SO past the sparkley point of eyeshadow (especially for daywear). Brushes to dollop it all on with would also be a really good ideal!!!! Hope that helps. As soon as you stock, I will definitely buy! PS: I wish I had seen that Christmas cake soap when I came in yesterday buying presents tp post to Spain !!! Ah well, there is always next time .......

Hello you!
I understand your sort-of coded message *winks conspiritorially* and your other requests (I too am totally past sparkly eyeshadows, very sadly).  And let me know if you want me to save you a bar of the Christmas Cake soap, they're nearly all gone!  Helen was off sick for a while so we were a bit behind with the labelling - sorry they weren't ready when you popped in x

sounds good!
It would be great to just buy everything i need from your site ( make-up, lotions, etc) without having to place my order elsewhere. If you do launch a make-up line, please provide a proper mascara as i found nothing mineral worth buying yet.

Hi there Silvana
Thanks for letting us know what you think - and yes, effective natural mascara seems to be like the Holy Grail of the industry.  Have you tried the nvey-eco one?  I rate that one pretty highly actually.

Tough one
This is a difficult one. Sourcing from an outside company does seem to be the best answer for the time being but there's always a risk involved in that it's hard to judge the demand of your customer base. Personally I've already found a mineral make-up supplier so the decision won't affect me either way, but I'd probably rather that you invested your time in creating more of 'your' products, if that makes any sense. You've become known for a particular range of products, so to have that range expanded to include things like facial oils, eye oils, perfume oils, would be very exciting. On the flip side I'm sure it would be handy for many people to find everything they need in once place - and a place they can trust. Just don't stop making your gorgeous lip gloss - it's the best one around and when applied with a well known brand of lip shimmers, looks divine too!

Thanks Elaine

That's really useful feedback.  I did wonder that as makeup is so personal a thing - we'd have to stock all 7 shades of foundation powder to get one for every skin shade for example - that it might be best to leave that one to the experts, the people that make it.

And you've hit another nail on the head too, you wouldn't believe the hours that have been spent in trying to source the raw materials and then a brand we like already - we too would rather be putting that time and energy into new products.  But people have been asking for it and as you know, we aim to please, so it's a hard one.  Either way, we've no plans to stop making the lip gloss though, so breathe easy on that score!

I appreciate your thoughts though, we'll come to a decison on this one quickly now we've got some feedback on it.

Make-up
Tis true that there are already several good natural make-up ranges but I am personally getting a bit worried about the mineral craze coz I am fiercely allergic to mica :o( The tiny particles of mica leave my skin red, itchy and raw, even on a good moisturising base. I realise this is not a very common problem (and disappointing too as it is such a safe ingredient). Are you considering just going down the mineral make-up line? I currently use foundation and blusher from another well known cosmetic company but one of the ingredients is talc which isn't great. Any thoughts? I agree with the previous post - even more yummy PNS skin products would be fabulous. The perfume oil idea sounds lovely!

Hello there :)

Thanks for letting us know your thoughts - and yes we were thinking about the mineral makeups, though it's rotten to hear you're sensitive to them.  And like you say, it's very unusual but in a world where people can even be sensitive to lavender oil, even we won't be able to produce a one-size-fits-all (how I loathe seeing that on a label...) product.  How frustrating for you though, what can you use?

And you make a good point about talc too, it's used in face powders partly to make them more matte but mostly because it's a very cheap filler, so it's always a disappointment seeing it on the label.

yes please,and yes please!!
I agree with all the other comments. I am actually buying my mineral make-up from another website at the moment, but like others have said,it would be even more convenient if I could buy all my products from one site. Funny you should mention the Lavender and there being the rare occasion of people being allergic to it...I have started to find that I'm a little sensitive to it sometimes! :/ I do find it is quite a powerfull oil though so maybe my skin just finds it a bit strong(I go bright pink in the face!) The oil perfumes I would love to see and also something I can put around my eyes. Unless there is something in your range that is already suitable to use in this delicate area I'd be more than happy to double up! :)

A definate yes....
This is the view of a very selfish consumer who wants her own way!!!! I want PNS to develop their own range of make-up! Why? Firstly, I trust the PNS brand, secondly PNS listens to its customers so we are likely to get what we want and finally everything could bought from one place - both more convenient and cheaper in terms of P&P. Granted, this won't be an overnight miracle - its going to take a while. It will be a two way process consisting of lots of communication between PNS and its many followers! This is so essential - so that both money and time are not wasted developing products that very few or nobody really wants and we will all have to be very patient. I'm sure there will be lots of customers out there who are willing to try out different trial products. If you do decide to go ahead with it, why don't you set up another page on the site for make-up product development (please don't do it on Facebook - I'm just not into it). We could then tell you exactly what we would like and you could tell us whether our wishes are unrealistic or not and the sorts of things that you have in mind - priorities etc. This would make the whole concept more focussed. You could start with neutral shaded eye products that a lot of people would use and then move onto more advanced products. I agree that foundation is a difficult one as our complexions are so diverse. You could start with a range of foundation testers and then get people to try them out and get an overall idea of the sort of shades we require. Again, mascara is a tricky one - the gold standard is no smudge. Oh - go on have a go - PNS can do it! Some sort of eye moisturiser would be great as has been suggested. And finally, the handbag size foaming hand wash (similar to the face washes but smaller). I am fed up of using those chemical ridden liquid soaps that they supply in public loos - thats if they bother to refill the dispenser. A PNS portable foaming handwash would be perfect. I thinks thats me finished for the time being - you'll be glad to hear. Bye for now!

Hello again PNSF :)

I'd love to do that, we all really would and that's exactly how we saw it going, the consultation on colours, the products etc, but I'm afraid that without being able to get hold on consistent colour quality mica that it's still just a dream at the moment.

I'll post a longer explanation of the mica bit above this post, just because it will be easier to read at your end, but we're really disappointed too, I'm so sorry you are.

On the hand wash point though, we are stocking a hand sanitiser (what with all this flu going around etc) which is great for those times when you can't get to a sink (clicky linky).  But I do like the portable handwash idea, I'll check out the possible packaging solutions for that and get back to yo - thanks again PNSF, you're a consistent mine of Very Good Ideas :)

make up
hi, bit late to the debate, but my 2 cents worth is that whilst in an ideal world I would love to buy a PN line of make up, it seems this isn't going to be possible for the forseeable, so the next best alternative would be to buy a product line that you guys recommend, as I'd trust your opinion, and by buying through you I get to support you more, and have the convenience of purchasing from the same place. Looking forward to hearing what develops, and love the rest of your range!
